Man Arrested for Fatal Stabbing in NW Florida Assisted Living Facility

(CHIPLEY) – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office charged Christopher Brett Kelley, 34, with murder after he allegedly stabbed another client of the Tropical Paradise Assisted Living Facility to death Saturday evening.

Deputies and Washington County EMS were dispatched to the facility at 1593 Brickyard Road at 6:46 p.m. after a call about two clients fighting. There they encountered Kelley, who appeared to have blood on his hands and clothing. According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Kelley immediately stated to deputies “I killed him.”

Rushing into the facility, first responders found Wendell Holmes, 53, lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds. Holmes was pronounced dead on scene. According to the release, Kelley said he believed Holmes had stolen money from him.

Holmes was transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
