A Massachusetts nursing home will be moving its residents after it accepted the state's request to convert the facility into a coronavirus treatment center.
Residents of the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center at Worcester and their families were notified of the decision on Friday. The moving process is set to begin Saturday.
According to SALMON Health and Retirement, which operates Beaumont, Gov. Charlie Baker, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the University of Massachusetts Medical Center called on the Worcester living facility to become the first nursing home in the state to become entirely devoted to COVID-19 patients in recovery.
SALMON accepted the state's request “out of a sense of duty," according to Beaumont's Facebook page.
Beaumont's residents will begin to be moved to other SALMON locations on Saturday. The goal is to have the entire facility evacuated by Wednesday.
