Nevada

  • Nevada’s nursing home ranking surged to No. 12 overall, up from No. 26, making it the nation’s second biggest mover in overall ranking.
  • Nevada is the only state that scored a failing grade in our initial report card and has since demonstrated enough consistent improvement to now become an “above average” performer in nursing home quality.
  • Nevada joined Washington D.C. and Alabama as one of three states to improve the state’s nursing home grade a full letter grade for the third consecutive report card.
  • After a modest decline in the percentage of facilities with deficiencies in our last report card, once again, every Nevada nursing home has been cited for violating one or more federal nursing home laws.
  • Although Nevada scraped by with an “average” grade in direct care staffing hours, this was a markable achievement for the Silver State when compared to the state’s previous failing years.
  • The uptick in direct staffing hours failed to yield a higher percentage of nursing homes with above average staffing scores; in fact, the number of facilities with higher staffing levels dropped 43 percent since the previous report card, falling to less than half of facilities with above average scores for the first time in report card history.
  • After being ranked No. 46 in the percentage of facilities with severe deficiencies in our first report card, Nevada nursing homes now have fewer reported incidents of abuse and neglect of residents than ever before (down from 32.2 percent to 3.4 percent) and is now ranked No. 2 overall in this statistical measure.
  • Nevada nursing home care ranks third out of the Pacific Region’s four states.
